Next 15 years 'will see boom in engineering industry'

The next decade could hold many opportunities for those looking for sales jobs at specialist engineering firms, an expert has asserted.

Rob Scott, managing director of Aaron Wallis Sales Recruitment, said that the government is intending to make the UK a world leader in a range of precision engineering and precision electronics areas over the next ten to 15 years.

"Engineering is an ageing industry and not enough young people are graduating in these areas to ensure that we have a platform of engineering talent for the future," he said.

"When we talk to engineering companies and they see this as a real threat for the future," he explained.

"Perhaps engineering and scientific disciplines are not as 'sexy' as IT and media, for instance, but there is a real dearth of engineering graduates coming through. Many companies are saying that they'll have to look to source talent outside of Britain and the EU to fill their specialist roles."

However, when people and government respond to these trends engineering will be a boom industry, with Mr Scott predicting there would be "a lot of opportunities for the next generation and I for one am encouraging my own children down a scientific and engineering path".
